About our Murals
-
Movable murals are printed on woven fabric, not vinyl. That one choice changes almost everything.
Fabric feels like art on the wall. Rich, with a soft luster, not shiny plastic. We start with a hand-painted original, scan it on a museum-grade drum scanner, and print every brushstroke onto woven fabric.
Fabric is also kinder to your home. It goes on smooth and lightly textured walls (like orange peel), peels off cleanly when you're ready, and can move with you to another room or even another house. Most vinyl decals are single-use and lose their stick over time.
And because we print with baby-safe, solvent-free inks on PVC-free material, you're not bringing vinyl fumes into the room your child sleeps in.
Vinyl decals are stickers. Movable murals are story walls.

The art, who it's made with, and the way it's made.
The art: Each mural starts as a hand-painted original. 40 to 80 hours of sketching, revising, and painting.
Who it's made with: I bring fifteen years of Creative Director experience working with LEGO, Xbox, and Pokémon. The six-year-olds bring the opinions that give it life. The cobra belongs in the jungle, not the desert. The dad fox is out hunting (it's why the mother and cubs are curled so close). Their ideas turn a pretty picture into a story wall your child can step inside.
How it's made: Museum-grade scanning. Archival inks on woven fabric, never vinyl. A peel-and-stick backing that removes cleanly and resticks as your life changes. Renter-friendly and kid-proof.
There are cheaper ways to decorate a wall. Whales & Willows is for parents who want those walls to mean something: a big, quiet "you're loved" your child grows up inside.

The colors stay vibrant up to 15 years. The adhesive lasts even longer.
Installing your Mural
-
Three steps:
1. Unroll and let it flatten while you prep the wall.
2. Wipe the wall with a damp, lint-free cloth. Let it dry completely.
3. Peel the backing a few inches at a time, press, and smooth as you go.
Most families are done in thirty minutes or less. Full installation guide here.

Our fabric works with most painted surfaces, including lightly textured walls (like standard orange peel).
It'll even hold up outside, in a rainstorm. Your nursery wall is well within its comfort zone.
-
Yes, and yes. It grips well and releases cleanly. No wall repairs, no sticky residue. Peel it off, reapply the backing, and it's ready to go up again. Same wall, new wall, next house.

We got you. Every mural comes with test stickers. We thought of this so you don't have to worry. Try one before you peel a single inch of your mural.
In the rare case they're not gripping well, you may have a specialty "easy-clean" paint. These contain silicone additives, the one nemesis for any adhesive. Reach out at support@whaleswillows.com. We have tips for that.
Kid stuck it to the cat? No questions asked. Free returns.
